Fueling Dreams One Cup at a Time
Ever the creative child, Jordan often found her dreams were viewed by others as too grandiose. Doris Day’s Hollywood version of Calamity Jane inspired the young girl to continue pushing the bounds of her imagination. While watching “Calamity Jane,” Jordan imagined herself to be a Broadway star, or a sharpshooting horseback rider, either way, she believed she could be important. She was also aware of the power “Calamity Jane” had over her grandparents. They sang “Secret Love” alongside Ms. Day, and looked at each other as though they were falling in love for the first time—it was “their” song and it always transported them to the young people who dreamed of moving from their small town and raising a family.
Calamity’s Coffee is a celebration of the power of dreaming too big and sharing those dreams with loved ones.
We believe that coffee and tea can stir the imagination and build community. It is our goal to exemplify a new way of running business. Rather than focus on the bottom line, we focus on you: the customer. Calamity’s believes that by creating an environment wherein the community can dream, enjoy great coffee or tea, and meet new friends, we all succeed. We support other small businesses (most of whom are local), and offer classes, presentations, and other opportunities to gather.
The real Calamity Jane (Martha Jane Canary) was known not only for her wild side, but also for nursing the ill, and Doris Day was a huge advocate for animal health and welfare. In keeping with their missions, Calamity’s Coffee is especially interested in working alongside those in healthcare (including those in mental health and veterinary medicine), and animal welfare organizations.
